Welcome to Grade 1!

Our classroom:
We use hand on learning activities, learning centers, movement based learning, mindfulness, direct instruction and inquiry based learning. We work together to create a positive, respectful learning environment that embraces each student's learning approach.  We will think about how we each learn best.  We work hard and have fun together!

Specials:
Monday: Library
Tuesday: SELF (Social, emotional, learning, framework) and PE (need to wear sneakers), STEAM (Science, technology, Engineering, art, and Math.)
Wednesday: Health (need to wear sneakers), Violin
Thursday: Spanish and Digital Technology
Friday: P.E. (need to wear sneakers)

Homework:
Monday -Thursday: nightly Eureka Math homework.  Please write a line (if desired) after your child spends 15 minutes and a question mark on any problem he or she does not understand ( I will help them in the morning.)

A reading log is passed out on Mondays and is to be returned on Fridays.  Students are to read or be read to for 10-20 minutes a night. They write the titles in the reading log.  We talk about books students have read on Fridays during morning meeting.

Students bring home homework in their Go Home Folders and put homework to be passed in back into their Go Home Folders.  When they pass in homework, the sticker student for that weeks puts a sticker on that date on their calendars on the back of their Go Home Folders to show that their homework was passed in.  Students have 2 free passes a term to do no homework because we all have those busy nights.
