SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS (SEN) PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL

SEPAC Chairperson: (currently vacant)

Purpose of the SEPAC: The mission of the Provincetown IB Schools SEPAC is to work for understanding of, respect for, and support of all students in the Provincetown community, particularly students with disabilities. To that end, they will work to:

  • Promote a network of parents of students with disabilities and provide a forum to share information

  • Offer a yearly review of Parent Rights in Special Education

  • Promote communication and programs within the Provincetown community to encourage understanding, acceptance and inclusion.

  • Advise the Provincetown Special Education Administration, Leaders of the School and the School CommitteeSEPAC. Communication about special education programs, parent and teacher needs and help develop procedures as the need arises.

Attention Private & Homeschooling Parents: Child Find

It is the responsibility of the Provincetown Public Schools to identify any child who may have a disability who is either a resident of Provincetown or who attends a private school within the geographic boundaries of Provincetown even if the student is not a resident of Provincetown. This also includes students who are homeschooled.

Provincetown Public Schools is also responsible for the evaluation of those students to determine if they are eligible for special education or related services under Federal law, IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) or, Massachusetts State Law, 603 CMR 28 (Massachusetts Special Education Regulations).

Provincetown Public Schools is also committed to identifying children before their third birthday in order to provide early intervention services for three and four year-olds with disabilities. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's development and would like to have him/her screened, please call Jeffrey Slater-Cote at 508487-5217 to set up an appointment.

If you suspect that your child may need an evaluation to determine eligibility for special education services, you may request an evaluation, at no cost, through the Provincetown Public Schools Special Educational Needs Office. Please contact us at the following:
