INSPIRATION: the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

Artists draw inspiration from countless sources — nature, music, emotion, and personal experience often spark the creative process. In the spirit of the IB Learner Profile, the Provincetown IB Schools visual art students approached their work as inquirers, exploring not only what artists create, but why they create it.

Through the development of strong research skills and critical thinking skills, students investigated the methods, materials, and motivations of diverse international artists. This process encouraged them to become more knowledgeable and open-minded, recognizing how culture, perspective, and context influence artistic expression.

Inspired by these discoveries, students demonstrated creative thinking and self-management skills as they experimented with techniques and materials to form their own interpretations. By taking artistic risks and refining their ideas, they grew as risk-takers and reflective learners, thoughtfully evaluating how their choices communicate meaning.

This exhibition represents not only artistic growth, but also the development of communication skills, as each piece conveys a personal response to global inspiration. It is our hope that the creativity and courage displayed in this work will inspire viewers to become inquirers themselves — to see the world differently and perhaps create something of their own.
