ANTI-RACISM RESOLUTION

Provincetown Schools District is dedicated to an IB standard of excellence. The International Baccalaureate program aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

As a school district that embeds its work in principles of human rights and social justice, we believe that respect for the inherent dignity of all individuals is fundamental to the promotion of behavioral health. No individual or group should be made to live in fear or should be excluded from society. Hate has no place.

Recent events in the United States remind us that prejudices, injustices, and inequalities are embedded in societies, from social structures to institutions to cultures. Decades of civil rights legislation and education have not obliterated racism, and its breadth has an effect on the safety, health, and well-being of individuals, families, and communities.

Therefore, we must continue the struggle against racism. Racism must not just be condemned, but its eradication must be actively pursued. Regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic status, nationality, veteran status, or age, we must all stand with those who suffer oppression and engage against exclusion and inequality.

Provincetown Schools have the responsibility to equip students with their civil right of obtaining a free and appropriate public education, it is the responsibility of our school district to ensure we create a welcoming community for ALL students.

THEREFORE, Provincetown Schools district must continue to educate our students and our community about racist structures and practices and inequality until such time as racism and inequality are eradicated, and diversity, equity and inclusion are embedded and practiced for all: our students, families, faculty, staff, and every member of our community. It is our responsibility to educate our community about racism and inequality and to step forward and speak up when we see or hear such behavior.

RESOLVED, Provincetown Schools must always make conscious decisions and policies that always take into consideration the rights and well being of ALL of our students and our local and global communities.
